Why it is called “Eight Characters”
The birth year, month, day, and hour each produce two symbols: one Heavenly Stem and one Earthly Branch. Four pairs make eight Chinese characters. The Day Stem—called the Day Master—is the reference point used to describe the rest of the chart.
A chart has three different layers
Calculated facts include the Four Pillars, element distribution, and structural interactions. Traditional interpretation gives those patterns cultural meaning. Practical guidance turns that meaning into questions or actions for real life. The last two layers are interpretations, not certainty.
The basic calculation in one line
Birth details → historical local time → true solar time → Four Pillars → element and relationship analysis → timing layers. Solar terms determine the BaZi year and month boundaries, so they do not simply change on January 1 or the first day of a lunar month.
What BaZi cannot prove
A chart cannot verify a medical diagnosis, guarantee wealth, decide whether a relationship will last, or calculate a person's lifespan. It is most useful as a structured language for reflection and timing—not a replacement for evidence.
